Jesmond Community Orchard

Welcome

Jesmond Community Orchard provides opportunities for growing fruit for the benefit of the general community and fosters community spirit by encouraging local residents to become involved in planning, preparation, planting, cultivation and harvesting of local fruit. Through events and activities it builds up an interest in local food growing, and care for the environment.

As well as enhancing part of St Andrew’s Cemetery, which is within a Conservation Area, and has lost trees over the years, the group provide educational opportunities for local schools. West Jesmond Primary School and Percy Hedley School and College. Both overlook the cemetery and are keen for pupils to get involved.

Jesmond Community Orchard is supported by local individuals and families who come to help with the work.

The orchard is located in the North West corner of St Andrew’s Cemetery, near a row of fruit trees growing along a cordon structure and through a large metal archway.
